Why KaiJazz at MUNCH
In recent years, Why Kai has gained recognition on the Oslo underground scene for pushing the boundaries of club music with unconventional elements. In Why Kai’s musical world, electronic club music is blended with acoustic, prepared instruments and elaborate compositions that lean towards jazz and chamber music. Kai von der Lippe and Elias Tafjord, familiar from bands such as Fieh, Tigerstate and Sassy 009, play live keyboards and drums, weaving in visual elements that complement the music.
Why Kai are set to release their third album Light & Mud, (Bigboy Records) on 9 October, and tonight’s concert at MUNCH will be the release party for the album. Light & Mud is a two-part album, with the A-side and B-side representing two different facets of Why Kai’s artistry.
Mirroring the album, the concert will also be in two parts, and the line-up – consisting of regulars Kai Von der Lippe (keyboards) and Elias Tafjord (drums) – will be expanded for the occasion with Joel Ring (double bass) and Tuva Halse (fiddle). They will reconfigure the Festsal with custom built stages, specially designed visuals and more.
After the concert, ticketholders can come up to the MUNCH Bar on the 12th floor for an after party.
Jazz at MUNCH is our concert series with roots going back to Munch Museum in the 1960s. Today the series is programmed in collaboration with Oslo Jazz Festival.
